According to the data of the World Health Organization, at least half an hour of exercise 4 days a week is beneficial for heart health, but exceeding these limits can have heavy consequences. In addition, excessive activity without warming up before doing sports is a condition that tires the heart and increases the risk of heart attack. Sudden exertion, putting a load on the heart, can cause thickening of the heart walls, causing compression of the vessels feeding the heart. Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış Çaynak talked about the things to be considered while doing sports…
Muscles must be strengthened first
“There are preparations to be made before starting a job in every area of life. Before starting to do sports, the person should prepare himself and go through the necessary health checks. Exercise, which provides changes in all body functions, increases the person’s oxygen need up to 12 times. This need directly means that the heart has to pump more blood. Meanwhile, the faster beating heart works harder and exerts more effort to meet all the needs. The muscles of the heart, whose workload increases, get stronger over time and become trained for the necessary effort, just like in professional sports people. In other words, making one’s heart suitable for sports can be achieved with regular exercise. Volume and muscle increase is observed in the left ventricle of the heart prepared for sports. In this way, the heart also has the power to continue physical activity at high tempo without difficulty.
Blood thinner area should pay attention to trauma
Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış Çaynak warns, “Scientific research shows that the majority of heart attacks occur between 06:00 and 12:00 in the morning, and most often between 08:00 and 09:00 in the morning. Brisk exercise in the morning can cause heart attack and sudden death in healthy people over the age of 40 and in all heart patients regardless of age. Those who have a family history of heart attack under the age of 55, smokers and obese people also face this risk. Sports activities should be planned according to the patient. For example, patients who use diuretic drugs in their treatment should not prefer high-paced sports; the patient who takes blood thinners should avoid sports sensitive to trauma.”
Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış Çaynak also states that the healthiest sports that can be done for heart patients are brisk walking and swimming, and emphasizes the importance of meditation.
