Urinary incontinence may not be a life-threatening and fatal problem, but it is a problem that disrupts social life and even condemns people to failure in their business life. Fatih Yanaral, Associate Professor of Urology explained that this problem can be completely eliminated with simple treatment methods, and if not treated, it can lead to depression.
Urinary incontinence, medically called incontinence, is known as incontinence and loss of bladder control. Urinary incontinence negatively affects a person’s social, work, sexual life, in short.
Fatih Yanaral, Associate Professor of Urology said, “Women complain more about urinary incontinence than men. Urinary incontinence generally causes embarrassment in the society. Many patients go untreated because they feel uncomfortable talking about urinary incontinence with their doctor. If urinary incontinence occurs frequently or affects quality of life, it is very important to see a doctor and get medical treatment recommendations. In most patients, urinary incontinence can be fully treated with different treatment options. These treatment options are strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles, drug treatments or surgical treatments.”
Commenting on the causes of urinary incontinence, Yanaral said, “Types of urinary incontinence are divided into three as stress urinary incontinence, urge urinary incontinence and mixed urinary incontinence. In addition, men may develop urinary incontinence after prostate surgery. Untreated urinary incontinence can lead to infections, skin rashes, or sexual problems. It can also cause depression, stress, damage to self-esteem and embarrassment. These problems can cause you to separate yourself from society and disrupt your work and social life. Physical examination, patient inquiry forms, urine diary, urine analysis, residual urine amount, pad test, uroflowmetry, urodynamic evaluation, cystoscopy and imaging procedures are applied in the diagnosis of urinary incontinence. The cause of urinary incontinence should be determined exactly. Sometimes, treatment of the underlying condition, such as prostate enlargement, also improves urinary incontinence. After the diagnosis, Bladder Training, Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercises, drug treatments, Estrogen supplementation and surgical treatments will help to completely eliminate this problem. Many of the urinary incontinence surgeries are easy-to-apply and can be performed as a day-to-day surgery, like sling surgeries for men and women. In cases where other treatments are not effective, complete dryness can be achieved with urinary clamp surgeries called artificial urinary sphincter and sacral neuromodulation known as bladder pile.”
