Getinge is extending its bioreactor offering by introducing the Single-Use Production Reactor (SUPR) system, which initially is available in 50-liter and 250-liter sizes. Based on the same proven platform as Getinge’s smaller bioreactors, the SUPR system helps operators to bring life-saving medicines faster to market, aiming to improve people’s quality of life.
With the introduction of the SUPR, Getinge again exploits its experience in bioreactor design resulting in a single-use bioreactor system for pilot and GMP manufacturing applications, completely scalable from its’ lab-scale single-use bioreactor systems.
“The SUPR system, featuring larger versions of our current lab size bioreactors, offers all the benefits of single-use bioprocessing. The SUPR C3 (Cell Cultivation Container) is delivered sterilized by gamma irradiation and does not require any facility hook-ups for sterilization or cleaning. The SUPR is space-saving compared to conventional stainless-steel bioreactors, and intuitive features such as the click-n-go bag loading make them easy to use.” says Jorg Bolder, Product Manager Life Science at Getinge.
The key design parameters of Getinge’s bioreactors, such as height-to-diameter ratios, dished bottom, impeller location and control system interfaces, have been maintained during the scale-up process.
“The plastic 3D-printed impeller is an innovative feature in the single-use system. By making the impeller collapsible we are also able to use smaller packaging, which makes transport more sustainable,” Jorg says.
SUPR brings additional value to the life science market by offering a flexible and configurable solution where the user can choose between Getinge’s Livit Flex and Pro-Control system for bioprocess control. Users can not only optimize their investments in bioprocess equipment, but also customize a complete solution to their specific needs.
“With the Livit Flex, the SUPR is controlled with the next generation bioprocess control system that features a customizable and intuitive interface and plug-and-play connectivity with Livit Links. With the Pro-Control, the SUPR is controlled by a proven and reliable control system based on DeltaV™, Siemens or Allen Bradley, providing the most reliable and robust solution for GMP manufacturing of life-saving medicines,” Jorg concludes.
The SUPR system comes in 50-liter and 250-liter working volume sizes. An additional 1,000-liter version will be launched in coming years.
