Chef Mehmet Yalçınkaya and his team opened the doors of MYK Gastroarena, which hosts culinary training and various events, to cancer survivors and their doctors.
Participants prepared different recipes under the direction of Chef Erkan Kıyıcıoğlu and ate the meals they made together, in order to raise awareness in the society within the scope of February 4 World Cancer Day.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şule Karabulut Gül, Board Member, Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology in Charge of Media stated that cancer is a disease that deeply affects the lives of millions of people and said, “World Cancer Day is an international event held every year on February 4 to raise awareness around the world and draw attention to the fight against cancer. Millions of people are newly diagnosed every year, requiring greater efforts to combat cancer. World Cancer Day provides an important platform to raise cancer awareness, promote preventive measures and emphasize the importance of early diagnosis.”
Stating that they, as the Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology on this year’s World Cancer Day met at a culinary event with strong, energetic participants who had met cancer and were successful in their treatments, she continued as follows:
“Our participants, who continue their careers as doctors, academics, journalists, business managers, radiotherapy technicians and pilates instructors, all have a different story. We know that cancer should now be considered a treatable chronic disease when diagnosed early. In our event, we wanted to draw attention to the fact that cancer should not be feared while cooking with our participants. Additionally, our participants stated that morale and motivation during treatment were the biggest support to them. On behalf of the Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology, I would like to thank Chief Mehmet Yalçınkaya and his team, who supported our association’s awareness event by opening the doors of MYK Gastroarena, Chief Erkan Kıyıcıoğlu, who patiently trained us, and all our participants who set an example for cancer patients with their participation. To access up-to-date and reliable information in the field of cancer, you can follow our association’s website trod.org.tr and social media accounts. Stay healthy.”
World Cancer Day is an important day for awareness
Prof. Dr. Uğur Selek, President of Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology pointed out that World Cancer Day is an important day that aims to raise awareness of cancer among all of us, among our routine hustle, and to share our knowledge and resources about the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of this disease, and said,
“We all know that cancer is a disease that affects the lives of millions of people and can be fatal if left untreated, but we believe that the more we repeat that it is possible to overcome cancer and significantly increase survival rates thanks to early diagnosis, the more attention we will attract. Early diagnosis means catching cancer at an early stage, greatly increasing the chance of cure, controlling it with less aggressive treatments, and even giving it a chance to be cured completely. Of course, the most important thing is that we reduce the risk of cancer by taking measures such as making healthy lifestyle choices, avoiding harmful habits such as smoking and alcohol, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. We remind you of World Cancer Day to unite in the fight against this disease and emphasize the importance of getting the right information from the right sources. We wish you healthy days by wishing for a bright future with the light of science.”
