AstraZeneca Turkey, which develops new approaches to protect natural resources by making science accessible, to offer a healthy life to future generations and to minimize the effects of its work on the environment, has published its Sustainability Report 2020.
Performing to work with the aim of doing even better for the society, environment and business with the global ‘Zero Carbon Commitment’ strategy, AstraZeneca Turkey shared sustainability updates in 16 priority focus areas positioned under 3 priorities as access to health services, environmental protection, ethics and transparency in its AstraZeneca Turkey Sustainability Report 2020.
Access to healthcare
Working for a future where all people have access to sustainable health services that include life-changing treatments and measures, AstraZeneca’s outreach programs have reached more than 25 million people and patient support programs have reached more than 10 million.
Environmental Protection
AstraZeneca, one of the organizations that demonstrates global leadership to proactively manage the environmental impact in all its activities and products, has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 60%, water use by 20% and waste by 2% since 2015. In order to contribute to the global “Zero Carbon Commitment” strategy, to protect nature and to provide a healthy life for future generations, AstraZeneca Turkey established the ‘Zero Carbon Working Group’ on a voluntary basis in 2020, and with the work of the group, it is accepted as one of the most prestigious award organizations in the world in 2021. It was awarded the Gold Award in the ‘Communication and Public Relations Campaign of the Year – Internal Communication’ category at the Stevie International Business Awards.
Ethics and transparency
AstraZeneca Turkey’s mission is to create a positive social impact and promote ethical behavior in all countries where it operates. Women make up 50% of the board of directors and 69% of the middle and senior management team. AstraZeneca Turkey was also included in the index for the third time as one of 380 companies in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index, which is measured in five criteria by the success of its internal and external gender equality activities and policies.
AstraZeneca, which places sustainability at the center of company activities, strives to create environments that promote health and well-being in all geographies it serves, in order to improve public health, make science open and accessible, reduce reliance on natural resources, and display ethical business practices with integrity. In this context, with the ‘Zero Carbon Commitment’ strategy announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland in 2020, AstraZeneca aims to double its renewable energy production by accelerating its targets within the scope of combating climate change and sustainability. The institution will use renewable energy sources for both electricity and heat consumption to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025. AstraZeneca Turkey continues to work with the Zero Carbon Working Group, which it formed in line with this strategy.
