Firsts
When we take a look at the firsts, it is known that the first pharmacies in the world were in Naples and Paris in 1140. In the 9th century, Selerno, known as the “First Medical School” in Europe, was established… The first pharmacy in the Ottoman Empire established in 708 during the reign of al-Mansur.
Education in Türkiye
Türkiye started the Pharmacy education with the Pharmacist class opened in Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Adliye-i Şahane on May 14, 1839. Today, undergraduate education continues for 5 years in pharmacy faculties.

14 May Pharmacy Day
On May 14, 1839, based on the Military Medical School (Tıbbiye-i Adliye-i Şahane), the first pharmacy class in our country, it is celebrated as “May 14 Pharmacy Day”. In the world, at the World Pharmacy Congress held in Istanbul in 2009, based on the date of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), whose establishment date is September 25, and FIP declared that 25 September, which was accepted unanimously, will be celebrated as “World Pharmacy Day” in all countries of the world.
